The mission of Google Maps is “to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful”. With a billion users, the importance of accuracy and responsibility to users is extreme. However, the world is always changing and though we make every effort to, the map is never universally accurate. In recent months, we as many industry partners have increased the ‘focus on the user’. One clear direction is to improve our collaboration with authoritative data providers, i.e government agencies. Understanding partner needs and user expectations is vital to the use and functionality of the Map. Recognizing many agencies have stellar geospatial data sets for their own communities, we need to partner better and provide better avenues if partners would like to add their data to the map.  We have provided a tool to get that data to Google through the Geo Data Upload Site. This site, which provides a mechanism for providers to submit their data to Google Maps, has grown exponentially in the number of datasets submitted, but with this we need communication with the data providers.  The site focuses on roads, geocodes, pois and political boundaries, but interested in what else may be useful.  We’d like the opportunity to be proactive about partnerships to make a real impact on the maps quality and accuracy for all users.
