Statewide Geographic Information System Coordinator (GIS)

The WV Geological Survey (State Agency) seeks to fill the Statewide Geographic Information System Coordinator (GIS) position which is housed in Charleston, WV. This person administers and supervises the activities of the State GIS program involved in planning, organizing, coordinating and delivering high level GIS services to agencies of state government. Education Required: B.S. degree with 5 years of professional experience with at least two years experience in system/program supervisory capacity OR M.S. degree from an accredited college or university with 4 years of experience - major in geography, cartography, computer science, planning, engineering, environmental sciences or related field. Prefer M.S. Degree with four years experience in high-level policy-based GIS management or coordination at enterprise or multi-agency level, or five years experience in project management and policy development. Experience with computer mapping software and computer manipulation of geospatial data is expected.
Other requirements: must work closely with other professional and program personnel; must have effective verbal and written communications skills; must be able to define and solve problems, work independently, and accept responsibility toward meeting deadlines. Must be able to convey advanced geospatial technical concepts and terminology to members of government and the general public and to establish and maintain effective relationships with user agencies, administrative officials and employees.
