Barney Krucoff

Barney Krucoff Barney Krucoff has been the geographic information system program manager in the District of Columbia Office of the Chief Technology Officer since 2004. In this role, Krucoff leads and coordinates GIS implementation for the District government. Krucoff's major project accomplishments include the publication of 250+ publicly available GIS layers; the adoption of the DC GIS Strategic Plan in cooperation with the United States Geological Survey and the Federal Geographic Data Committee; the establishment of the Federated Data Model, which governs geospatial data sharing among District agencies; and the integration of live operation data into the DC GIS central database (service requests, permitting, and crime data feeds). Krucoff is also responsible for the development of service-oriented architecture supporting multiple District Web applications using GIS.

Additionally, Krucoff serves on the National Geospatial Advisory Committee (NGAC), where he helps develop national geospatial policy, and on the GIS Committee of the Washington Council of Governments, where he helps coordinate the National Capital Region's GIS activities.

Before joining the District government, Krucoff served as a GIS manager with Michael Baker Jr. Inc. in Alexandria, Va., from 1998 to 2004. Projects included the National Pipeline Mapping System for the United States Department of Transportation, which built a national data set from private-sector data submissions. From 1991 to 1998 Krucoff worked for the federal National Capital Planning Commission, where he managed development of the first civilian digital contours and orthoimages of Washington, D.C., in 1995.

Krucoff earned a master's degree in city planning from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University.
