RAMONA Version 2 Spring 2007 Update

Version 2.0 of the Ramona GIS Inventory was released on January 29, 2007.

Version 2.0 of the Ramona GIS Inventory includes the following new features:

  • The system is on a more powerful dedicated server that includes redundant data back-up schemes to prevent data loss.

  • The speed of the system has been improved in every area and should be especially evident to the user in the Status Maps.

  • The function of the "My Geography" tab under the User Profile has been changed slightly to make it more intuitive.

  • The system now assigns bounding coordinates to your data for all places included in the "My Geography" tab such as counties, cities, and tribal lands.

  • The user has improved functions for managing the geography of each data layer including the ability to view the default geography, and new capabilities to create custom geographies and remove them as appropriate. These individual changes will be maintained by the system until the user specifically changes them.

  • Each state can create custom questions that will add a "State Questions" tab under the My Profile section. This allows each state to obtain additional critical information without having to use a separate inventory system.

  • Metadata is automatically created for the user, and any changes to your profile (e.g. changes to My Geography, addresses or phone numbers) will automatically force creation of a new metadata record with the up-to-date information.

  • There are new detailed questions on certain framework data layers (e.g. digital elevation models & orthoimagery) that were required to help build national data inventories. If you have previously completed these layers in your profile, please return to these sections and complete the new information.

  • Beginning on February 1, 2007, metadata for your data will be shared with the Geospatial One Stop Portal (GOS). In addition to the GOS Portal, your metadata on digital elevation data and orthoimagery will also shared with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for their flood map modernization program and the National Digital Orthophoto Program (NDOP) and the National Digital Elevation Program (NDEP). The function to control this has been moved to each individual data layer instead of the "Metadata" tab where it was located in Version 1.0

  • System administrators can run powerful new reports that they will use to improve statewide GIS coordination, data sharing, and data partnerships. With the release of Version 2.1, we plan to make certain report functions available to all registered users.
